The Roads General Authority reported over 3.7 million vehicle crossings to Makkah in the first ten days of Ramadan, driven by the influx of Umrah pilgrims.

Makkah, March 13, 2025 — The Roads General Authority (RGA) has announced that over 3.7 million vehicles have passed through the roads leading to Makkah during the first ten days of Ramadan, marking a significant surge in traffic due to the influx of Umrah pilgrims and visitors coming to perform religious rituals during the holy month. This remarkable increase in vehicle crossings highlights the growing number of people visiting the sacred city for Umrah, underscoring the vital role Makkah plays as a spiritual destination for Muslims worldwide.

The RGA attributed this surge in traffic to the large number of Umrah pilgrims traveling to Makkah to participate in the holy rituals. To effectively manage this significant volume of vehicles, the authority has relied on an integrated system of services, coordinated in collaboration with relevant government entities. These efforts have been aimed at ensuring smooth traffic flow and enhancing the overall visitor experience. The RGA also noted the implementation of major improvements to the road network infrastructure, designed to facilitate easier access to Makkah and ensure safety for all road users.

In its statement, the RGA emphasized its ongoing commitment to further developing the road network and enhancing its services to accommodate the increasing numbers of Umrah pilgrims and visitors. These efforts are in line with Saudi Arabia’s broader vision to provide a seamless and comfortable experience for pilgrims, ensuring that their journey is both safe and efficient. By applying the highest standards of safety, quality, and infrastructure development, the RGA is working to guarantee that every visitor to Makkah can focus on their spiritual journey without concern for logistical challenges.

The authority’s focus on continuous improvement reflects its dedication to supporting Saudi Arabia’s religious tourism sector, particularly during peak times like Ramadan, when Makkah sees an influx of millions of visitors. The RGA remains committed to maintaining its high standards of service to provide a safe, convenient, and spiritually enriching experience for all pilgrims and visitors to the holy city.
