
Madinah, March 18, 2025 – The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has unveiled its comprehensive statistical report, shedding light on the exceptional services offered to visitors of the Prophet’s Mosque during the first half of Ramadan 1446 AH. The report highlights a remarkable commitment to supporting worshippers, pilgrims, and visitors, ensuring that their spiritual needs are met while upholding the highest standards of care, comfort, and accessibility.
According to the report, the Prophet’s Mosque welcomed over 14 million worshippers during this period, underscoring the mosque’s status as a central place of spiritual connection for Muslims from all over the world. A key element of the visitation was the performance of greetings upon Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his two companions, with 1,217,143 visitors taking part in this sacred ritual. The mosque also issued a significant number of permits for prayers in the Holy Rawdah, with 223,742 permits granted to men and 155,630 permits issued to women, facilitating their access to one of the most revered prayer spaces in Islam.
The report further highlights the authority’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of visitors through its extensive distribution of Iftar meals. Over 4.5 million Iftar meals were provided to help break the fast for mosque-goers, contributing to the spirit of giving that defines Ramadan. In addition, 3,650 tons of Zamzam water were consumed by visitors, with 422 samples of the water undergoing rigorous testing and analysis to ensure its quality. More than 81,000 liters of disinfectants and sanitizers were used across the mosque’s facilities, ensuring cleanliness and hygiene, particularly amidst the high volume of visitors during Ramadan.
Visitor engagement and accessibility services were also central to the report’s findings. The authority provided support to over 18,000 visitors at the Prophet’s Mosque exhibits and museums, offering an enriching educational experience. Additionally, more than 51,000 individuals benefitted from the mosque’s library services, while around 84,000 people attended scholarly lessons, further emphasizing the mosque’s role as a hub for learning and spiritual growth.
In its ongoing efforts to accommodate all visitors, the authority facilitated access for individuals with special needs. More than 250,000 visitors used wheelchair transport, while 50,000 chairs were made available for the elderly. Mobility carts were also loaned to over 20,000 visitors, ensuring that all could comfortably access the mosque’s sacred spaces. Despite the high demand, the mosque’s parking facilities maintained a remarkable occupancy rate of 95%.
Guidance services were an essential aspect of the authority’s operations. Over 47,000 visitors received spatial orientation assistance, helping them navigate the vast complex of the Prophet’s Mosque. Additionally, 45,000 visitors benefitted from religious guidance, while more than 22,000 visitors were able to engage in on-site communication in various languages, reflecting the mosque’s efforts to cater to the diverse backgrounds of its visitors.
The mosque’s prayer halls were in high demand, with occupancy rates reaching 93% inside the mosque, over 80% in the external courtyards, and 33% on the roof. These statistics reflect the overwhelming demand for space during the peak of Ramadan, underscoring the mosque’s central role in facilitating worship during the holy month.
The volunteer program also played a crucial role in the seamless operation of the mosque, with 22,589 volunteers actively assisting visitors and ensuring that their experience was smooth and pleasant. In recognition of their efforts, the authority distributed 600,000 gifts to visitors, adding a personal touch to their spiritual journey.
The efforts to document and share updates on these services were significant, with over 50 media reports produced to keep the public informed about the ongoing work and services at the mosque. This commitment to transparency and communication reflects the authority’s dedication to maintaining a high level of service for the millions who visit the Prophet’s Mosque during the blessed month of Ramadan.
