Qatar’s MCIT and Oracle sign agreement to expand dedicated cloud area and renew agreement

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and Oracle have signed an agreement to renew the technical support agreement for Oracle licenses across government agencies in the State of Qatar for an additional three years from 2025 to 2028, in parallel with the establishment of a new Oracle-dedicated cloud region for the government sector.

The agreement aims to enhance the continuity of government digital services through the provision of integrated backup data centers, thereby strengthening the government’s cloud computing capabilities in the State of Qatar.

The agreement comes as a continuation of the existing cooperation between the two parties, which saw the launch of the first government-only cloud region within Qatar in February 2024.

In response to government agencies’ growing digital transformation requirements, the new region aims to enhance operational readiness by providing a comprehensive backup infrastructure that ensures uninterrupted government digital services while enhancing the operational continuity and geographic resiliency of cloud infrastructure.

Overseen by MCIT, Oracle’s dedicated cloud region for the government sector supports many strategic government initiatives by delivering advanced services across infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), cloud applications and artificial intelligence technologies.

This will help accelerate digital transformation, modernize government services and strengthen innovation across the public sector.

The platform will also help strengthen data protection, increase readiness to respond to cybersecurity threats, support operational requirements for artificial intelligence solutions, and enable government agencies to securely and efficiently scale digital services to meet the nation’s needs. The agreement was made within the framework of Qatar’s efforts to develop advanced digital infrastructure.
