Pakistani authorities have revealed the identity of the gunman responsible for the Islamabad mosque attack, confirming that he is called Yasser Khan Yasser, lives in Peshawar, and was trained in Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s Geo News network reported on Saturday that sources close to the investigation reported today (Saturday) that the attacker, Khan, had been in Afghanistan for about five months before returning to Pakistan.
Investigators are looking into possible ties between the attacker and the Khorasan Provincial Group, a branch of ISIS active in Central and South Asia, and the investigation is still ongoing, investigators said. Yasser Khan had extremist leanings and is believed to have received military training while in Afghanistan.
Officials said efforts were underway to uncover the entire network behind the attack.
