Aircraft carriers represent the pinnacle of the development of naval power in modern times, turning them into surface air bases capable of transporting troops thousands of kilometers from national territory, allowing militaries to quickly intervene and impose a military presence in different parts of the world.

surface warfare base

While battles are no longer decided solely by land-based armies or traditional fleets, aircraft carriers have become integrated platforms from which fighter, reconnaissance, and early warning aircraft are launched, giving carrier-owning countries simultaneous control of the air and sea, and the ability to move military power wherever needed.

America’s clear advantage

The United States is at the global forefront in this field, with 11 operational aircraft carriers, the largest of their kind in the world, giving it a unique ability to rapidly deploy forces to various oceans, making it the world’s most powerful naval presence.

Asia’s rapid rise

Meanwhile, China is rapidly increasing its naval presence as part of its plans to expand its military influence in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and now has three aircraft carriers in service, making it the second-largest power in the field.

India also relies on two aircraft carriers to increase its strategic influence in the region as part of its efforts to protect trade routes and ensure its presence in the Indian Ocean.

presence of european power

On the European side, the UK operates two of the world’s most modern aircraft carriers, and Italy has two aircraft carriers commissioned to support naval operations. Japan also relies on two aircraft carriers to support its naval aviation capabilities, while France has one and Russia also has one in its naval fleet.

rare and expensive weapons

Despite their military importance, aircraft carriers remain rare weapons possessed by only a small number of countries, as they require enormous industrial, technical and military capabilities, as well as high operating and maintenance costs.

For this reason, aircraft carriers remain a clear symbol of naval power and strategic influence for the countries that can own and operate aircraft carriers in the world’s oceans.
