Gdansk: Uber announced on Monday that it has agreed to acquire the delivery division of Turkey’s Getil from its controlling Emirati shareholder Mubadala, expanding the US-based company’s footprint in Turkey.
Separately, Uber said in an SEC filing that it will pay $335 million “on a cash and debt-free basis” to fully acquire Getir’s food delivery business.
The filing also indicates an investment of $100 million to acquire 15% of Getir’s food, grocery, retail and water delivery services. Reuters reported in November that Uber had reached an agreement in principle with Mubadala to buy Getil’s food delivery division, pending approval from Turkish authorities.
Uber said in an announcement that it aims to combine elements of Getil and Turkey’s previously acquired Trendior GO to “support the continued growth of a vibrant and competitive ecosystem” that benefits consumers, couriers and sellers.
Last May, Uber agreed to acquire 85% of Trendyol GO for $700 million. (Reporting by Arda Dipova; Editing by Jonathan Spicer and Kirsten Donovan)
