Work began today (Wednesday) at the Headquarters of the Arab League Secretary-General on an extraordinary session of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives to discuss ways of Arab and international action to counter the Israeli occupation government’s coercive decisions regarding settlement expansion in the West Bank.
The extraordinary session will be held at the request of the State of Palestine and with the support of the Member States, in the presence of Ambassador Fayed Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League and Head of the Division for the Occupied Palestinian and Arab Territories, and in the presence of representatives of the Member States or their representatives.
The meeting was attended on behalf of Saudi Arabia by Ambassador Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Matar, Permanent Representative of the Arab League.
This session will discuss how to move to counter recent Israeli measures aimed at expanding colonial settlements, demolishing houses, seizing private and public lands, and transferring control of the city of Hebron to the so-called “civil administration” of the occupying authorities, in ways that affect the status and status of the Noble Ibrahimi Mosque.
