Sweden’s unemployment rate rose for the second consecutive month in January last year. This is according to data released today by Statistics Sweden.
The unadjusted unemployment rate reached its highest level in three months, hitting 8.6% in January last year, compared to 8.3% in December 2025, bringing the unemployment rate to 10.4% in January 2025.

The number of unemployed people increased from about 476,800 in December last year to 489,700 in January last year.
The youth unemployment rate, which includes those aged 15 to 24, reached 23.3% in January last year, compared to 21.5% in December 2025.
Meanwhile, the employment rate fell from 68.7% in December last year to 68% in January last year.
