Saudi Arabia’s Yemen Development and Rehabilitation Program (SDRPY) and the European Union on Monday announced a partnership in efforts to improve livelihoods in Yemen.

These efforts focus on investments in economic recovery programs and reforms, job creation, strengthening state institutions, and strengthening community resilience, including in the areas of food security, agriculture, power, water, and environmental health.

The strategic partnership between the two countries is consistent with efforts to strengthen international cooperation in support of Yemen.

Supporting improved water access in Marib Governorate is the first outcome of the strategic partnership.

The parties signed an agreement in Riyadh with the SILA Foundation to implement the R9 million “Strengthening Water Security in Marib District” project, which covers nine areas across Marib al-Wadi, Marib City and the districts of Marib. More than 350,000 people will benefit from this project.

This agreement reflects the parties’ commitment to joint action and continued coordination to improve the living conditions of all Yemenis.

SDRPY and the EU agreed to continue coordination and explore additional opportunities for cooperation in the water sector, as well as joint development projects and initiatives in other sectors.
