US imposes restrictions on visas for Iranian officials – Saudi News

Today (Wednesday), the US State Department announced it is imposing entry visa restrictions on a number of Iranian officials, due to what it calls a wave of violence and repression that Iran has witnessed in recent months.

The ministry said the entry visa restrictions also target 18 Iranian officials, in addition to a number of communications department officials and other officials, suggesting these sanctions were due to “a wave of violence and repression imposed by the Iranian regime against tens of thousands of peaceful protesters.”

This comes amid growing threats against Tehran, with Israeli officials announcing that Tel Aviv is preparing for the possibility of war breaking out with Iran within days.

The American website Axios quoted Israeli and American officials as saying that the ongoing preparations were based on the possibility that the diplomatic route would fail, which could open the door to a major military operation against Iran, likely jointly carried out by the United States and Israel. They added that “any U.S. military action would not be a limited attack, but rather an operation that could last several weeks and could move closer to an all-inclusive war in nature, targeting Iran’s nuclear and missile structures and possibly Iran’s regime-linked security services more broadly.”

Meanwhile, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said a possible strike could be weeks away, although some believe the timeline could be shorter than that, according to Axios.

The US State Department announced today (Wednesday) that it is imposing entry visa restrictions on a number of Iranian officials in light of what it calls a wave of violence and repression witnessed in Iran in recent months.

The ministry said the visa restrictions also target 18 Iranian officials, in addition to several officials in the telecommunications sector and other officials, suggesting these sanctions were imposed due to “a wave of violence and repression imposed by the Iranian regime against tens of thousands of peaceful protesters.”

This comes amid growing threats against Tehran, with Israeli officials announcing that Tel Aviv is preparing for a possible war with Iran within days.

American website Axios reported that Israeli and American officials said the ongoing preparations were based on the possibility that diplomatic efforts might fail, which could open the door to a large-scale military operation against Iran, which would likely be a joint American-Israeli operation. “Any U.S. military action would not be a limited attack, but rather an all-out war-like operation that could last several weeks and target broader areas of Iran’s nuclear and missile infrastructure and, in some cases, security services affiliated with the Iranian regime.”

According to Axios, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said a potential strike could be weeks away, while others believe the timeline could be shorter.
