The atmosphere on the first night of Ramadan in Egypt’s Qena governorate turned into a tragic scene after a young man was shot in the neck and killed while trying to offer Tarawih prayers in the al-Fawkani market area of Bandar Qena.
Security officials from the Qena Security Directorate received a notification from the Qena Police Station that they had received a report about the killing of a young man in the Al-Bandar area. After removal and examination, it was determined that Abdullah Atit, a resident of Bandar Qena and from Al Marashda village within the Wakf Center, had been killed.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim was on his way to the mosque to perform Tarawih prayers when he was surprised and shot in the neck, killing him on the spot.According to information, the incident took place in the backdrop of an earlier argument with his brother.
At the discretion of the competent authorities, the body was transferred to the hospital and a report on the incident was prepared, while the public prosecutor’s office launched an investigation and the investigation department was tasked with quickly clarifying the circumstances of the incident and seizing the defendant and the weapon used.
The incident was reminiscent of scenes of violence in several villages in Upper Egypt, but this time on a night that was supposed to be a day of calm and prayer.

Upon arrival, tests revealed that Abdullah Atit, a resident of Qena city and from Marashda village in the center of al-Waqf, was found dead.

The prosecutor’s office launched an investigation and ordered the investigation headquarters to quickly clarify the circumstances of the incident and arrest the suspect and the weapon used.
