Sadness spread across Egypt’s sports world after Mansoura Workers’ Club player Moatasem Zakaria died in a tragic road accident in Dakaria Governorate while distributing breakfast and dates to people fasting before sunset prayers.
According to local media reports, the incident occurred on a highway, where the athlete was hit by a car while on a charity mission distributing breakfast to tourists and passersby.
The National Media Authority’s website said the 14-year-old athlete died at the scene of the accident, in a harrowing incident that shocked the sporting world and drew widespread sympathy.
Meanwhile, the Workers’ Sports Club announced the player’s death in a short statement on their official page, in which they confirmed that team player Moatasem Zakaria, born in 2011, died in a tragic accident.
As the Egyptian Football Association mourns the death of the young player, the president of the association, Mr. Engineer Hani Abu Raida, the members of the board of directors and employees of the federation and the Dakaria Football Branch expressed their heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family and prayed that God would cover him with his immense mercy and grant patience and comfort to his family and relatives.
