NEW DELHI – Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) Director General Abdullah Al-Ghamdi announced that Saudi Arabia is the first Arab country to join the Global Partnership for Artificial Intelligence (GPAI).

Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, he highlighted that joining the GPAI underlines Saudi leadership in promoting the responsible and secure use of AI. Notably, Saudi Arabia ranks third in the world in contributions to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development AI Policy Observatory, submitting more than 60 policies to support international governance.

According to Al-Ghamdi, this strategic partnership aims to expand AI risk oversight to the Middle East, align regional priorities with international standards, and strengthen the Riyadh Charter on AI to ensure ethical technology development for the benefit of humanity.

Saudi Arabia has officially joined the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), a G7 initiative sponsored by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.

Saudi Arabia’s membership in GPAI, represented by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority, underscores the Kingdom’s role as a global leader in AI governance and development. This membership, supported by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, is in line with Vision 2030’s goals to localize advanced technologies and increase the digital economy’s contribution to GDP.

By joining more than 40 countries, Saudi Arabia will actively shape international standards in AI, promote ethical and responsible use of AI, and attract high-quality global investment in a strong regulatory environment.
