Today (Monday), the Chadian government announced the closure of its border with Sudan and a ban on the movement of people and goods across the border until further notice, after fighting between Sudanese troops and rapid support forces spread to the Artine region near the border between the two countries.

The Chadian government said in a statement that the decision was taken against the background of repeated invasions and violations by Sudanese conflict forces on Chadian territory, and that the decision was aimed at preventing the risk of conflict spreading into Sudanese territory, protecting citizens and refugees, and ensuring the country’s stability, security and unity.

Special exceptions to decisions

The government stated that special exceptions justified on purely humanitarian grounds may be granted with prior permission from the competent authorities, indicating that it reserves the right to respond to any attacks or violations of the sanctity of its territory or borders.

The government called on the residents of the affected areas to remain calm and vigilant and respect this decision, and instructed the administrative and military authorities to strictly implement this measure.

Combat and bombing of civilian housing

Intense fighting continues in many parts of North Darfur state between the Sudanese National Army, Rapid Support Forces, and allied armed groups. The Al Tine region is located on the border with Chad, approximately 400 km northwest of El Fasher, and is considered a strategic border point of security, political and economic importance, as it is an important commercial border and a major corridor for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Darfur.

Meanwhile, the Sudan Awakening Council accused Rapid Assistance Forces of attempting to assassinate leader Musa Hilal by bombing his home in Mustaliha district of North Darfur state yesterday (Sunday).

The Awakening Council said in a statement that its rapid support forces bombed a hospital and civilian residences in the same area during the attack, explaining that several attacks were carried out in Musta Aliha, one of which hit a guesthouse building, but caused no damage.
