RIYADH — The Ministry of Interior has completed the second edition of its “Places of History” initiative by restoring and preparing one of its historic sites, the ministry’s first headquarters in Riyadh, opened in 1957.

The ministry said the initiative, launched to coincide with National Day, has national significance reflecting the security agency’s roots in the First Saudi State and its continued role in supporting the nation’s stability and development under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The ministry said the initiative is being carried out in line with the directives of Interior Minister Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif and reflects the leadership’s commitment to reviving historical sites associated with the evolution of security operations and strengthening their presence in the national memory.

The event coincided with the National Day celebrations and attracted broad community participation, including stakeholders and interested participants.

The initiative aims to restore and highlight historical, archaeological and cultural heritage related to the ministry’s work and mark milestones in the development of the Kingdom’s security and administrative institutions.

For the second consecutive year, the Ministry prepared its first headquarters in Riyadh, symbolizing an important step in the evolution of institutional government work, following the relocation of the Ministry’s headquarters from Mecca to the capital.

Cultural events were held in the building’s courtyard, which included a recreation of Riyadh’s early administrative environment, reflecting the beginning of organized government activity in the capital in 1952.

The ministry said the choice of the former headquarters embodies two parallel beginnings: the establishment of the first Saudi state and the establishment of the first government office in Riyadh, with the start of organized government activities.

He added that what they have in common is the central role of security as a pillar of a nation’s efforts to protect life, property and public welfare.
