Today (Tuesday), the Ismailia Juvenile Criminal Court closed the case of a child who murdered his colleague, known in the media as the “Saw Child” case.

In deliberations held today, the court sentenced the child killer to a juvenile detention center for 15 years.

On October 12, last year, in Ismailia Governorate, a 13-year-old boy named Youssef A. lured his friend Mohammed to his home in the New Station area, killed him, dismembered his body with an electric saw (rocket), and threw it in a secluded area. The heinous crime caused public opinion to rise on the streets of Egypt due to its ugliness.

According to preliminary investigations, the perpetrator’s child lured his co-worker to his parents’ home while his parents were away, beat him until he died, then brought his father’s electric saw and cut up the corpse, influenced by scenes he had seen in violent series and electronic video games.

Investigators ordered the defendant to carry out DNA analysis to match forensic evidence and to complete technical testing procedures for the instruments used in the crime, during which the defendant’s child made a provocative and detailed confession, confirming that he had decided to kill his classmate after an argument at school.

After seeing gruesome killing methods in foreign films, he decided to “try it” like his colleagues.

In his confession, the suspect said he lured the victim to the new station area in Ismailia and then hit him over the head with a wooden stick until he fell to the ground and died. He then returned home, brought an electric saw, and began cutting the body into small pieces so that he could easily transport them in his school bag.

The Juvenile Criminal Court of Ismailia Governorate decided at its last meeting to postpone the case until February 24, after the defendant’s lawyer was absent from the previous meeting because he submitted a request for the dismissal of the court without giving legal reasons, and the court appointed another lawyer to defend the defendant while continuing to hear the case according to established legal procedures.

The victim’s lawyer confirmed that the psychiatric report issued by the competent committee of the Regional Mental Health Council regarding the mental state of the accused “Youssef A” confirmed that he had full mental capacity and at the time of the crime was fully criminally responsible for the heinous incident.

During the trial so far, the defendant’s lawyer had questioned his mental health due to the heinous nature of the crime and had requested a psychiatric referral. The court responded to this request and decided to refer the defendant to the relevant committee to prepare a comprehensive report on his psychological and mental condition.
