WASHINGTON — Saudi Arabia has denied claims that it encouraged U.S. President Donald Trump to launch a military attack against Iran, asserting recent reports suggesting otherwise to be false.

Fahd Naser, a spokesperson for the Saudi embassy in Washington, said Saudi Arabia has consistently supported diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a credible agreement with Tehran.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has consistently supported diplomatic efforts to reach a credible agreement with Iran,” Naser said in a statement posted on social media.

“At no point in our communications with the Trump administration did we encourage the president to adopt a different policy.”

His remarks came in response to a report in the Washington Post, which cited four people familiar with the matter as saying that President Trump launched the attack on Iran after weeks of lobbying by Israel and Saudi Arabia.

The report also said U.S. intelligence assessments showed no imminent threat, but regional allies insisted they support military action.

Saudi Arabia’s statement emphasized its long-standing position advocating dialogue and diplomatic solutions to regional tensions, while rejecting claims that it had pushed for a move toward direct military confrontation.

Saudi Arabia has emphasized stability and security across the region and has repeatedly called for a calming and political solution to the conflict involving Iran.
