The U.S. State Department has announced a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the arrest or conviction of two brothers believed to be among the most prominent leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel in Baja California, which includes the border city of Tijuana.

New accusations against “La Lana”

The announcement came at the same time that U.S. authorities unveiled an amended indictment against Rene Alzato Garcia, 42, known as “La Lana.”
He had previously been charged with drug crimes in San Diego, but the charges were expanded to conspiracy, narcoterrorism and material support for a designated foreign terrorist organization.

5 million for each brother…and location unknown

In the American offer, the reward is divided into two parts.

$5 million for information on Rene Alzate Garcia.

He offered another $5 million in exchange for information about his brother Alfonso Alzate Garcia, 52, known as “Achilles.”

The whereabouts of the two brothers are still unknown.

Take control of the most dangerous intersection in the Western Hemisphere

The two brothers control a major smuggling hub in Tijuana on the U.S. border and are key elements of the command and control structure within the Sinaloa cartel, according to a statement from the State Department.

The department confirmed that their increased control over Tijuana Square gives the gang a tactical advantage over rival organizations and ensures continued operations at the Western Hemisphere’s busiest border crossing.

The burning border between Sinaloa and Jalisco

The California-Mexico border is the scene of a bitter conflict between the Sinaloa Cartel and its fierce rival, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, over their control over billions of dollars in drug trafficking and smuggling routes into the United States.
