Drone attack on UAE’s Mussafah fuel tank terminal, no impact on flight operations

CAIRO: A fire broke out at the Mussafah fuel tank terminal in the United Arab Emirates after it was targeted by a drone, but operations were not affected, the Abu Dhabi Media Office said on Monday.

“Authorities in Abu Dhabi today responded to a fire caused by targeting the Mussafah fuel tank terminal with a drone. The situation was quickly brought under control,” the ministry said.

No injuries were reported.

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company operates a facility in Mussafah from which fuel is transported by truck and a 1,600-kilometre pipeline network delivers finished product throughout the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis targeted the Mussafah fuel base in 2022 during their war with the Saudi-led coalition.

Early Monday morning, Saudi Arabia’s state oil giant Aramco shut down its Ras Tanura refinery after coming under drone attack, in an apparent escalation on the third day of attacks across the region launched by Tehran in response to attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel.

Qatar Energy also said it would suspend production of LNG and related products because of the attack on its Ras Laffan facility, a source told Reuters. (Reporting by Menna Alaa El-Din, Jaidaa Taha and Yousef Saba; Editing by Alex Richardson)
