JERUSALEM – The Israeli military has attacked the building housing Iran’s presidential palace and Supreme National Security Council in Tehran, announcing another major escalation in the ongoing Israeli-Iranian conflict.

“The Israeli Air Force… overnight attacked and dismantled a facility on the premises of the leadership of the Iranian terrorist regime in the center of Tehran,” the military said, according to French news agency AFP.

“During the attack on the compound, a large number of ammunition were dropped on the presidential palace and the Supreme National Security Council building,” it added.

Exchanges of missiles and drones between Israel and Iran escalated on Tuesday as the conflict entered its fourth day.

A series of overhead explosions were heard in Jerusalem after the Israeli military announced it had detected a new missile fired from Iran and was “conducting operations to thwart the threat.”

Meanwhile, a loud explosion shook Tehran. Iranian media also reported explosions in the city of Qarazi on the outskirts of Tehran and in the central city of Isfahan.

The Iranian Red Crescent said more than 780 people had been killed across the country since the US and Israeli attacks began.

President Donald Trump on Monday suggested the United States would retaliate “soon” after two drones believed to be Iranian attacked the Saudi embassy in the Saudi capital.

President Trump told NewsNation Network that “we’ll see soon” how the U.S. will respond, but gave no further details.
