JEDDAH — The Council of Ministers reaffirmed on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia will take all necessary measures to ensure its security and protect its territory, people and residents. The Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman chaired the Cabinet meeting, which was held via video conference.
At the beginning of the session, the Cabinet reviewed the latest developments in the region and their implications for regional and international security and stability. The Cabinet was briefed on the communications and consultations that have taken place in recent days regarding these developments and their significant consequences.
The Council expressed its appreciation for the stand taken by leaders of friendly countries in condemning the reprehensible attacks by Iran on Saudi Arabia, other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and Jordan.
In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency after the meeting, Media Minister Salman al-Dosari said the cabinet reiterated Saudi Arabia’s full support and solidarity with brotherly countries whose territories are exposed to blatant Iranian aggression. The Council emphasized that the Kingdom stands ready to mobilize all its capabilities to support any measures taken by these countries in response to these attacks that undermine regional security and stability.
The Cabinet also reviewed the hospitality and facilities provided to nationals of GCC countries stranded at Saudi airports, ensuring the comfort of their second home until the situation makes it safe to return to their home countries. The Cabinet reviewed the results of Saudi Arabia’s participation in regional and international conferences.
The Council expressed the hope that the outcome of the recent Extraordinary Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will help strengthen the mechanism to coordinate the positions of Member States and strengthen efforts to support the rights and cause of the Palestinian people.
The Cabinet highlighted Saudi Arabia’s new economic support for the Yemeni budget as a continuation of Saudi support to the brotherly Yemeni people, strengthening the foundations of stability and development and reflecting the depth of the two countries’ historic brotherly relations.
On the domestic front, the Cabinet praised the significant progress achieved under the ambitious plan to increase gas production, which features the start of production of the first phase of the Jafra gas field and the start of operations of the Tanajib gas plant, in addition to the continued development of several other gas projects that will contribute to achieving the Kingdom’s economic growth goals.
The Cabinet approved the National Policy on the Promotion of Healthy Diets and the National Policy on Child Protection in Educational Institutions. The Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the governments of Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh for cooperation in the energy sector. Approved the Guidance Template for Memorandums of Understanding between the Saudi Research, Development and Innovation Authority (RDIA) and its counterpart authorities of other countries for cooperation in the field of research, development and innovation, and authorized the RDIA Chairperson or his/her representative to discuss and sign draft memorandums of understanding with counterpart authorities of other countries in accordance with the Guidance Template.
The Cabinet approved a memorandum of understanding between the governments of Saudi Arabia and Tajikistan on cooperation in the field of civil defense and civil protection, and a general cooperation agreement between the governments of Saudi Arabia and Ghana. The Council authorized the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, or his representative, to consult with the New Zealand side on a draft memorandum of understanding between the Saudi and New Zealand governments on cooperation in agriculture and livestock, and authorized the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, or his representative, to consult with the Canadian side on a draft memorandum of understanding between the Saudi Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Industry Canada on investing in artificial intelligence and skills development.
The Cabinet approved a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of tourism between the Saudi Ministry of Tourism and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism of Cyprus, and a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in promoting direct investment between the Government of Saudi Arabia and the Government of Honduras.
The Council approved a memorandum of understanding between the governments of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in the field of economy and planning, and another memorandum of understanding between the Saudi Institute for Standards, Metrology and Quality and the State Administration of Market Regulation of China on cooperation in the field of conformity assessment.
The Cabinet approved a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of radio and television between the Government of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Broadcasting Authority, and the Government of Kuwait, represented by the Ministry of Information, as well as another memorandum of understanding between the Saudi Monitoring and Anti-Corruption Authority, the Nigerian Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission, the Guinean National Anti-Corruption Agency, and in the field of anti-corruption and combating corruption.
