The UAE announced yesterday that 17,498 passengers have been transported on 60 flights operated by the national carrier since March 1 as part of its emergency flight plan.
The current operational capacity of the UAE’s emergency air corridor is 48 flights via the designated emergency corridor. The next phase will see 80 daily flights carrying more than 27,000 passengers, said Abdullah bin Tuk Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism.
Addressing a press conference to introduce the latest developments and provide an update on the current regional situation, Al Marri said the UAE’s tourism sector, which includes 1,260 hotels and more than 40,000 tourism-related businesses, continues to operate as usual. Hotels, resorts, tourist attractions and shopping centers remain open and comply with safety standards.
We have worked with relevant authorities to implement emergency measures to support affected visitors. These include cooperation with embassies and diplomatic missions, a coordinated response through the Emirates Tourism Council, and the provision of accommodation and logistics support.
Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism and Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism have instructed hotels to extend stays for guests unable to travel due to flight disruptions.
The General Civil Aviation Authority continues to work closely with regional and international partners. He said emergency air routes were activated and a regional contingency plan was implemented in coordination with GCC member states and the International Civil Aviation Organization.
