RIYADH – Saudi Arabia’s air defense forces intercepted and destroyed a drone and two cruise missiles on Wednesday, after an attempted drone attack targeted the Ras Tanura oil refinery in Eastern Province, causing no damage, authorities said.
The air defense force intercepted one drone in the Eastern Province and destroyed two cruise missiles over Al-Khalj, said Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki, official spokesman for the Ministry of Defense.
Energy Ministry officials said in a separate statement that the Ras Tanura refinery was the target of an attempted drone attack late in the morning.
Officials confirmed that the accident caused no damage and that oil supplies were not affected.
Officials said Saudi air defense forces responded immediately to the threat, intercepting targets from the air and maintaining the security of critical facilities and infrastructure.
Ras Tanura, located in the Eastern Province, is one of Saudi Arabia’s largest oil refining and export facilities.
