Kuwait today carried out the funeral of Elna Abdullah, an 11-year-old child who died from injuries caused by debris that fell on a house in a residential area of the capital province during the military’s response to hostile air targets in Kuwaiti airspace, to the burial site in Sulaibihat Cemetery.
The funeral was a sad scene of prayers and tears, while civilians turned out in large numbers to console the father and share in the family’s sad loss, in an incident that shook Kuwait’s streets and shone a new light on the impact of military escalation in the region.
In the words of a grieving father: “It’s a blessing that God gave me and took away from me.”
“She was born in Kuwait. She is a blessing from the Lord of the world. He gave her to me and I took her in,” the girl’s father said in an emotional scene during the funeral, adding: “I thank the State of Kuwait and the Kuwaiti government for not failing me.”
He explained that his daughter was sleeping with her sister when the debris fell, and that he had two daughters, one of whom was dead and the other healthy. It was also confirmed that the mother’s condition is stable.

Kuwait’s Ministry of Health said the 11-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries in hospital despite attempts by emergency medical teams to save her.
In a separate statement, the ministry added that the girl’s mother and three other relatives suffered varying degrees of injuries and were receiving the necessary treatment, stressing that medical care would continue to be provided.
