WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump said Saturday that Iran has apologized to its neighbors and pledged to stop firing on them following sustained military pressure from the United States and Israel.
In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, President Trump said the Iranian government’s withdrawal was the result of continued attacks carried out by the US government and its regional allies.
“A battered Iran has apologized to its Middle Eastern neighbors, surrendered, and promised not to fire again. This promise was only made in the face of relentless attacks from the United States and Israel,” Trump wrote.
He also claimed that Iran’s ambitions to dominate the region had been thwarted.
“They were trying to take over and control the Middle East. This is the first time in thousands of years that Iran has lost to neighboring Middle Eastern countries.”
He was harshly critical of Iran, saying that Iran was no longer the “bully of the Middle East” but rather the “loser of the Middle East.”
The US president also warned of further military action.
“Iran will be hit very hard today,” he wrote, adding that more regions and groups could be targeted.
The remarks came amid heightened tensions and reports of attacks by the United States and Israel targeting facilities in Iran.
