The ceremony, attended by Egyptian Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, included a presentation on the preparation and equipment procedures of the participating forces, highlighting the readiness and combat readiness of all weapons and specialties.
Egyptian military spokesperson announced that the participation of the Egyptian military confirms Egypt’s historical position and reflects Egypt’s keenness to participate effectively in support of the pillars of international peace and security.
A few days ago, President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi received Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, a Somali national. Discussions included discussing ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and Somalia and exchanging visions on the latest developments in regional and international issues of common interest.
The Somali president’s visit comes weeks after Israel recognized Somaliland, which was rejected by several countries including Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. These countries confirmed their complete rejection of this measure, calling it a violation of Somalia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and a threat to stability in the Horn of Africa.
Egypt underlined its full support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and rejected any unilateral measures that undermine Somalia’s sovereignty or undermine the country’s foundations of stability.
Egypt affirmed its support for Somalia’s legitimate state institutions and rejected all attempts to impose parallel institutions inconsistent with the unity of the Somali state.
It is noteworthy that Egypt and Somalia signed a military cooperation protocol in August 2024. On July 20, two years ago, Somalia’s Council of Ministers approved a joint defense agreement with Egypt. The agreement represented a qualitative change in bilateral relations, providing for enhanced security coordination, military training, and the exchange of experience, as well as technical assistance to the Somali military.
