The African Union Peace and Security Council affirmed its firm determination to support the preservation of the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, while firmly rejecting any external attempts to divide the Federal Republic of Somalia or change its borders.
In an official statement issued after the 1,330th Ministerial Meeting held in support of Somalia under the Egyptian Presidency in February 2026, the Security Council expressed its full solidarity with the Government and people of Somalia and praised its efforts towards strengthening security, combating terrorism and extending state authority across the country.

He also welcomed progress in military operations against terrorist organizations and called on the Somali military, supported by AUSSOM and partners, to maintain pressure to permanently dismantle terrorist organizations.
The statement emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive national dialogue between the federal government and member states, including Jubaland and Puntland, to strengthen national unity and accelerate nation-building, focusing on local and national elections, combating extremism, and supporting youth and civil society to meet challenges.
In the context of the operation of the Ausom Mission, which replaced the Atomis Mission in January 2025, the Council emphasized the need to accelerate force generation and provide sustainable, predictable, flexible and multi-year funding to the Mission, in close coordination with the Government of Somalia and military and police contributors.
The Council directed the African Union Commission to convene a meeting of military and police chiefs of contributing countries to discuss the future of the mission and make strategic recommendations.
The Security Council also firmly rejected the unilateral recognition of Somaliland announced by Israel, deeming it “null and void, void and without legal effect” under international law, calling for its immediate withdrawal, and warning that such a step threatens peace and stability in the Horn of Africa and the entire continent.
The statement praised the role of neighboring countries and international partners, including the United Nations, European Union, Arab League, Organization of Islamic Cooperation and IGAD Group, in supporting Somalia, and stressed that solutions must be of Somali origin and leadership.
