Mohammad Al Quwaikubi, a player on the first football team of Al Tawun Club, said that Steven Gerrard, former coach of the Al Etifaq team, asked the players of the Al Itifak team to train before sunset prayers in the holy month of Ramadan, the first of its kind. Al-Quwaibi said in an interview with Channel 8: “Gerard asked us to take part in training while fasting, which is the first time this has happened, especially since we entered the holy month of Ramadan. We discussed with our coach Gerard about delaying training after breakfast, and he believed that he made the right decision.” Al-Quwaikubi’s comments caused widespread reaction in Al-Itifaki Street, especially as the matter was previously unknown within Al-Itifaki House, and Briton Gerard’s actions are considered the first of its kind in terms of forcing players to train during a fasting period.

Mohamed Al Kwiqbi, a first-team footballer at Al Ta’oun club, said that Al Etifaq’s former coach Steven Gerrard required his players to take part in a training session before Maghrib prayers during the holy month of Ramadan. This is the first of its kind. “Gerrard asked us to take part in training during the fast, which was a new experience for us, especially since it was the blessed month of Ramadan. We discussed with our coach Gerrard to delay training after iftar, but he believed that his decision was the right one,” Al-Kwikbi said in an interview with Tamanya Channel. Al-Kwiqbi’s statements caused a widespread reaction within the al-Etifaq community, especially since the issue was previously unknown within the al-Etifaq family. Briton Gerrard’s move is thought to be unprecedented in forcing players to train during a fasting period.
