Amazon’s cloud division reports problems with data centers in Bahrain and United Arab Emirates during Iran attack

Amazon’s cloud division’s data centers in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates are facing power and connectivity issues, the company said Monday, as Iranian retaliatory attacks hit airports, ports and residential areas across the Gulf.

Two of the zones in Amazon’s cloud division, a cluster of data centers in the United Arab Emirates, lost power on Monday, the company announced on its status page.

AWS said on Sunday that one zone in the UAE was affected after an “object” hit its data center, cutting off power and causing sparks and fire.

“We can confirm that a localized power issue is impacting another availability zone in the UAE region,” AWS said in a statement.

The company reported earlier Monday that it was seeing some recovery in the region, but is now asking customers to use its services in other regions, adding that recovery is expected to take “a few hours”.

The company did not confirm or deny when asked earlier whether the UAE incident was related to the Iranian attack.

AWS said it was also facing localized power issues in one of its zones in Bahrain. (Reporting by Shubham Kalia and Rajveer Singh Pardesi in Bengaluru; Editing by Rashmi Aich and Mrigank Dhaniwala)
