U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said U.S.-controlled Venezuelan oil sales have exceeded $1 billion so far and are expected to reach another $5 billion in the coming months.
According to Western media, he noted that the administration of US President Donald Trump had transferred the proceeds of these sales to Venezuela’s interim government, adding that the bulk of the volumes were being refined at US refineries.
He explained that the U.S. government will continue to oversee sales operations and revenue flows until a representative government is established in Venezuela, suggesting free elections are likely to be held before the end of President Trump’s second term.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said: “Venezuela is beginning to achieve significant economic gains not seen in recent years, and he stressed that the influx of oil will help support the Venezuelan people. He said that relations with the Interim President of Venezuela are very good and that bilateral relations are at an exceptional stage.”
