Today (Thursday), US officials revealed that instructions have been issued to Carrier Strike Group 2 to prepare for deployment to the Middle East.
The Wall Street Journal quoted a U.S. official as saying, “The Pentagon has instructed the carrier’s 2nd Strike Group to prepare for deployment to the Middle East, while the U.S. military prepares for a possible attack on Iran. The carrier will be dispatched within two weeks, likely from the U.S. East Coast, to join up with the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, which is already in the region.”
He added, “The aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush is completing a series of exercises off the coast of Virginia, which could hasten the conclusion of the exercises.”
These proposals came after President Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House yesterday to discuss negotiations with Iran, which Trump did not confirm.
Meanwhile, Jalal Deghani Firouzabadi, secretary of Iran’s Foreign and Strategic Council, confirmed that there is no military solution to Iran’s nuclear program, explaining that the terms of the current negotiations between the US and Iranian sides are different from previous negotiations, with the country experiencing a war that lasted 12 days, making dialogue more difficult.
“The psychological and political atmosphere of the negotiations is even heavier because you have to negotiate with the person who attacked you, and the level of distrust towards the United States is increasing,” he added.
