The Asian Football Confederation is set to decide on granting Saudi Arabia the right to host the group system play-off matches of the elite AFC Champions League, following the postponement of Round of 16 matches scheduled to be held next Monday and Tuesday.
This postponement action was taken in view of the rapid developments taking place in the Middle East region, after today (Saturday) a number of countries, including the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Jordan, came under Iranian attack and the airspace of many of these countries was closed.
The AFC is expected to announce a formal decision within the next few hours after assessing the safety situation and coordinating with local federations and participating clubs to ensure the safety of teams and fans and complete tournament competition in accordance with the revised timetable.

The postponement comes amid rapidly evolving developments in the Middle East following attacks by Iran on several countries today (Saturday), including the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Jordan, resulting in the closure of airspace in some of these countries.
AFC plans to announce an official decision in the coming hours after assessing the safety situation and coordinating with local federations and participating clubs to ensure the safety of teams and fans and to continue the tournament according to the revised schedule.
