Bahrain and France signed a joint defense cooperation agreement on Friday during a meeting between King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.

The French Presidency said the agreement will strengthen cooperation in the fields of defence, training and strategic information exchange.

“This agreement will also open new opportunities for industrial cooperation in defense and strengthen solidarity between the two countries in a global and regional geopolitical context characterized by heightened tensions,” it added.

The agreement was signed by Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, National Security Adviser and Secretary-General of the Supreme Defense Council of Bahrain, and Alice Rufo, Deputy Minister of Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs of France.

According to a report by the Bahrain National News Agency (BNA), President Macron emphasized the depth of historical relations between Bahrain and France and the progress achieved in various fields in support of common interests.

King Hamad praised the French President’s enthusiasm for strengthening bilateral ties.

The meeting also referred to measures to strengthen bilateral relations across all sectors to achieve common interests.

Both sides praised the efforts of the Bahrain-French Joint High Commission. The two leaders highlighted the positive results achieved in promoting cooperation and stressed the importance of continuing the Commission’s efforts to expand cooperation across various sectors.

The talks addressed regional and international developments and efforts aimed at resolving conflicts and easing tensions through dialogue and diplomatic solutions.
