Mr. Khalid Mohamed Barama, Governor of the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE) and Dr. Ahmet Ismaili, Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and promoting the exchange of information and expertise in areas of mutual interest.

The signing took place at the CBUAE headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding, the parties will strengthen cooperation across supervisory and regulatory areas and exchange expertise on financial technology development, monetary policy, macroprudential measures, and financial stability.

The MoU also covers a number of priority areas in line with the parties’ applicable laws and regulations, including financial consumer protection, financial inclusion and financial literacy, Islamic finance, banking supervision, payment system monitoring and oversight, implementation of international prudential standards, and anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT).

Commenting on the signing, Khaled Mohamed Barama said: “This Memorandum of Understanding with the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo is signed at a time of rapid transformation across the global financial sector, requiring stronger institutional channels of cooperation between central banks and supervisory authorities. Through this Memorandum, we aim to exchange insights and best practices that support the vision of the wise leadership and the mutual interests of both countries and strengthen the readiness and capacity to respond to changes in the financial sector.”

Dr. Ahmet Ismaili said: “This first Memorandum of Understanding with the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates is a historic milestone for the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo. It reflects our commitment to expand our international cooperation with reputable partner institutions, strengthen our institutional capabilities and support the continued modernization of the Kosovo financial sector in line with international standards and best practices.”
