A drone targeted an Omani port and hit a fuel tank on Tuesday, state media said, as Iran ramps up its Gulf operations to counter U.S. and Israeli attacks.
Oman News Agency (ONA) said: “Security sources have reported that a fuel tank at the Duqm commercial port was targeted by a number of drones, one of which hit the fuel tank. The resulting damage was contained without any human casualties.”
The attack on the port is the second in three days as Iran expands its targeting in the Gulf.
Oman, which played a mediating role in negotiations between the United States and Iran, called for a ceasefire in the war.
On Sunday, two drones crashed into the same port, injuring one worker. One hit the worker’s accommodation, and debris from the other landed near a fuel tank, ONA reported.
These were the first attacks on the sultanate since the outbreak of the war, and Oman had come under attack despite acting as a mediator between Iran and the United States in the days before the conflict.
An oil tanker was attacked off the coast of the capital Muscat on Monday, causing an explosion and fire that killed one person, authorities said.
An explosion in the ship’s main engine room killed one Indian crew member.
