Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with a delegation of Swedish medical companies led by Swedish Minister of Health Elisabeth Rahn to explore ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and expand medical and investment partnerships, the Ministry of Health announced.

The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters in Egypt’s new administrative capital, highlighted the depth of the strategic relationship between the two countries. Prime Minister Abdel Ghaffar expressed Egypt’s ambition to deepen cooperation with Sweden through technology transfer and exchange of expertise to improve the quality of health services.

The minister reviewed Egypt’s successful public-private partnership models, including the hepatitis C eradication program, which is widely regarded as a global benchmark, and the President’s Health for 100 Million initiative, which has contributed to improving public health indicators across the country.

Health Ministry Spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the discussions will focus on supporting Egypt’s long-term health reform agenda, in particular the nationwide expansion of universal health coverage, while benefiting from Sweden’s experience in health system planning, digitalisation, sustainability and pharmaceuticals.

The meeting also highlighted priorities for hospital development and service upgrades in emergency and critical care, oncology, infectious disease control, radiotherapy, and advanced medical imaging through structured public-private partnerships.

Additionally, the two sides discussed opportunities for collaboration in digital health, including integrated electronic health records, telemedicine solutions, AI-driven clinical decision support tools, and health data governance, security, and sustainability frameworks.

According to the statement, senior officials from the Egyptian Narcotics Authority, the Unified Procurement Authority and the Ministry of Health attended the meeting.
