DUBAI – Emirates and Etihad Airways said on Friday they would gradually resume limited flights from their major hubs after days of disruption due to escalating tensions in the region.
Both airlines had suspended operations following the launch of a joint attack on Iran by the United States and Israel, and Tehran’s retaliatory attacks targeting Israel and Gulf states.
Both airlines said part of their regional airspace is being reopened in stages and flight processes are beginning to normalize.
Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways has announced a limited flight schedule until March 19, with flights to around 70 destinations including Frankfurt, London and Paris.
Dubai-based Emirates has announced that it will continue to operate flights to 82 destinations until further notice.
The airline also said passengers transiting via Dubai will only be allowed to travel if their subsequent connecting flight is confirmed.
Passengers with existing reservations were given priority on available flights, while travelers without confirmed reservations were advised not to go to the airport.
Both airlines said they are closely monitoring the evolving security situation and flight schedules may change depending on developments.
Meanwhile, a Lufthansa plane chartered by the German government transported German nationals in need of assistance from Gulf countries to Frankfurt on Thursday morning.
Johann Vardepur said two additional evacuation flights would be arranged as part of Germany’s efforts to support its people amid the regional crisis.
