RIYADH — Several Gulf states said Saturday they would temporarily close their airspace and intercept Iranian missiles targeting their territory amid rising tensions in the region.

According to Qatari media reports, a Qatari Ministry of Defense official said the Iranian missile was intercepted using the Patriot defense system. Agence France-Presse reported that an air raid siren was sounded near Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Qatar’s Ministry of Interior confirmed that there were no casualties as a result of the attack.

Iran’s Fars News Agency said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted multiple US military bases in Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain.

In Bahrain, the National Communications Center announced that a service center belonging to the US 5th Fleet was targeted by a missile attack.
