TEHRAN – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Saturday that Iran will refrain from attacks on neighboring countries unless attacks against Iran are carried out from Iranian territory.
In a televised address to the Iranian people, Pezeshkian said the country’s Extraordinary Leadership Council had decided to halt attacks on neighboring countries.
“Yesterday, the Extraordinary Leadership Council announced that there will be no further attacks or missile launches on neighboring countries unless there is an attack on Iran from neighboring countries,” he said, according to Press TV.
Pezeshkian also apologized to neighboring countries, saying Iran had “no intention of invading other countries” amid rising tensions in the region.
At the same time, he dismissed expectations that Iran would surrender unconditionally, saying those who held such hopes “will take their dreams with them to their graves.”
On February 28, Iran fired missiles and drones at Israel and Gulf states, increasing tensions in the region. Some attacks resulted in casualties and damage to civilian facilities such as ports and residences.
Tehran said the airstrike was in retaliation for a U.S. and Israeli military operation against Iran that killed hundreds of people, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and senior military officials.
