Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani today (Tuesday) vowed to firmly oppose any forces that seek to drag his country into conflict.
Al-Sudani said the state would stand “strongly” against any forces that try to drag it into conflict, stressing that only the state and its institutions have the right to decide on war and peace.
“The government is committed to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty, airspace and territorial waters and preventing them from being used in any way in the ongoing conflict,” al-Sudani added, while chairing an extraordinary meeting of the National Security Council of Ministers, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
He noted that the Iraqi government is committed to not allowing its diplomatic missions abroad to be targeted or its vital facilities damaged, and that its security forces will continue to fulfill their role and obligation to protect citizens, diplomatic missions, private and public property, and enforce domestic laws in line with international obligations.
Meanwhile, an Iraqi government military spokesperson said that authorities had not yet monitored the launch of attacks from within Iraq toward neighboring countries, and that relevant agencies were pursuing those responsible for launching drone attacks across Iraq.
He pointed out that strict instructions and orders have been issued by the Prime Minister to track down everyone involved in the missile launch, suggesting that top security leaders are monitoring developments and working to track down the culprits.
He noted that the investigation continues at a high level, the results of which will be known soon and necessary action will be taken against the perpetrators. This came after various factions announced that they were carrying out attacks against regional countries from inside Iraq.
