JEDDAH — The Jeddah Mayor’s Council on Sunday began issuing evacuation orders for 129 dilapidated buildings in the Grail district.
The Mayor said that in preparation for completing the approved regulatory procedures in coordination with the relevant authorities, a specialized team from the Directorate General for Emergency Situations and Crisis Management has begun providing on-site notifications for the buildings included in this initiative.
This is part of the Mayor’s continued efforts to enhance public safety and protect life and property from the dangers posed by unsafe structures. The initiative is part of the Mayor’s Office’s broader program to address dilapidated buildings across the governorate, following an initial phase targeting districts such as Al Faisaliyah, Al Rabwah, Al Farouk and Al Ruwais. These stages include on-site monitoring and completion of regulatory procedures if intervention is required.
The Mayor emphasized that the approved regulatory procedures will continue, starting with the monitoring and documentation of the building’s condition, and ending with the notification and provision of the legally mandated grace period to the owner, and the necessary actions to address the building’s condition in accordance with applicable regulations.
