Big news for jet-setters!
Riyadh is quickly becoming the IT city of the region.
With fantastic annual events like Riyadh Season and MDLBEAST Soundstorm, that is no surprise.
With the increased influx of tourists and future residents landing at the King Khalid International Airport, the Saudi capital has decided to erect a second airport, the king Salman International Airport.
The new airport was first announced in November of 2022 and has since then been a source of immense excitement and buzz.
New progress is reported every few months and this time it was announced that the airport will be getting not one, not two, but a whopping three new terminals.
Designed by architectural giants Foster + Partners, the new terminals’ construction contract was awarded to Bechtel.
King Salman International Airport

King Salman International Airport is set to become one of the biggest airports on the planet, spreading out over a jaw-dropping 57sqkm. With six runways and terminals named in honor of King Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, this mega hub is all about going big.
But it’s not just size that matters here, this airport is designed with sustainability in mind, packed with 12 kilometres of support facilities, plus residential, recreational, and retail spaces (yes, shopping fans, there will be plenty to browse between flights).
And the best part? The interiors will proudly showcase Saudi culture at every turn, making every arrival and departure feel like a true sense of place.
King Salman International Airport location
While the exact location of the new hub has not been revealed, we do know that the airport will be near King Khalid International Airport.
King Salman International Airport opening dates
The official opening dates have not been announced yet, but check back with Destination KSA to learn when they are.
King Salman International Airport airlines serviced

The airport will more than likely serve all major national and international carriers. It will also be the hub for Saudia and Riyadh’s luxurious, digital-first airline Riyadh Air.
King Salman International Airport terminals
Bechtel is taking the reins on building not one, not two, but three brand-new terminals at King Salman International Airport. They’re rolling out a shiny new terminal for commercial airlines, Terminal 6 to boost capacity, and an exclusive terminal just for private aviation—complete with aircraft maintenance facilities. In short, air travel in Riyadh is about to level up in a major way.
More in aviation

In addition to the new airport, the capital city is also preparing for the first Riaydh Air flight later this year. The proudly purple airline has revealed the sky high luxury it is set to offer with its cabin reveal in April.
Coming soon. Riyadh, pif.gov.sa.
