Dubai Airport, the world’s busiest airport for international traffic, suspended operations and partially resumed services on Saturday after it was intercepted by air defenses in the area during an attack from Iran.

“Flights have partially resumed operations from today, March 7, with some flights operating from DXB and DWC,” the newspaper said, referring to Dubai’s main airports and the city’s Dubai World Central Al Maktoum International Airport.

“As schedules continue to change, please do not go to the airport unless you have been notified by your airline that your flight has been confirmed,” the airline urged passengers.

Earlier, the government announced that operations had been suspended after an object was intercepted from the air near the airport, with witnesses telling AFP they heard a loud bang followed by smoke.

“For the safety of passengers, airport staff and airline crew, operations at Dubai International Airport (DXB) have been temporarily suspended,” the government’s Dubai Media Office said in a social media post.

In a separate post, the government said there was a “minor accident due to falling debris after the interception,” but no one was injured.

“The UAE’s air defense forces are currently responding to the missile and drone threat from Iran,” the UAE Ministry of Defense said.

Tracking website Flightradar24 previously showed the plane circling over the airport in an apparent holding pattern.

Flights from Dubai’s main airport partially resumed on Monday, despite daily drone attacks targeting locations in the United Arab Emirates.

Last Saturday, war erupted in the Middle East after the United States and Israel attacked Iran, injuring four employees and damaging their devices.

Iranian attacks have also hit Abu Dhabi airport, the upscale Palm Jumeirah development and the luxury Burj Al Arab hotel, and on Tuesday, debris from a drone started a fire at the US consulate in Dubai.

Meanwhile, Qatar’s Ministry of Defense announced that it had repelled a rocket attack against the country.

Bahrain’s Armed Forces said it has intercepted and destroyed 86 rockets and 148 drones since the Iranian attack began.
