The Islamic World League (MWL) welcomed the joint statement issued by the Saudi foreign minister and various other foreign ministers condemning Israel’s illegal decisions regarding the West Bank.
On Monday, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Brazil, France, Spain, Turkiye, Egypt and Qatar, as well as the leaders of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, condemned Israel’s decision to introduce a significant expansion of its illegal control over the West Bank.
MWL Secretary-General Dr. Sheikh Mohammed Al Issa warned of the grave consequences of Israel’s continued violations of international law, international humanitarian law, and established norms and customs.
He praised the Foreign Minister’s strong determination to take practical measures in accordance with international law to counter the expansion of illegal settlements in the Palestinian territories. He also emphasized the need to address policies of displacement and annexation and the threats they pose.
Dr. Al-Issa called on the international community to take action to end Israeli violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and to implement relevant resolutions such as the United Nations Security Council and the New York Declaration on the established and historic right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state.
On February 15, Israel’s cabinet approved further measures to tighten Israeli control over the occupied West Bank and make it easier for settlers to buy land, in what Palestinians call a “de facto annexation.”
The West Bank is one of the areas where Palestinians are aiming for a future independent state. Much of it is under Israeli military control, and some areas are home to limited Palestinian territories ruled by the Western-backed Palestinian Authority.
