RIYADH — The National Meteorological Center has issued successive orange and yellow warnings for several areas as sandstorms and brisk winds continue to affect large areas of the Kingdom, with visibility significantly reduced.
Orange warnings indicating more severe weather conditions have been issued for parts of Makkah region, Eastern Province, Riyadh region, Najran and Asir.
In the Makkah region, Al Shuaiba and Al Rais were placed on alert from 9am on Tuesday and continued until 11am on Wednesday.
Two orange warnings were issued in the eastern provinces. The first will cover Al-Ahsa, Al-Udeid and Al-Bikik from 5am to 6pm on Wednesday, and the second will cover Jubail, Al-Khafji, Dammam, Dhahran, Qatif and Ras Tanura from 4:10am to 6pm.
The Riyadh region, including Al Ahraj, Al Surayyur and Wadi Al Dawasir, is expected to remain under a state of alert from 6:10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
In Najran, a sandstorm is expected to occur in Taal and Badr Al Janoub from 10am to 6pm on Wednesday. Asir region, including Al-Arin, Bisha, Tasrit and Turba, was also placed under orange alert for the same period.
Forecasts call for active winds and dust storms with near-zero visibility, which could range from 1 to 3 kilometers in affected areas. Coastal areas may also experience increased wave activity.
Meanwhile, a yellow warning for moderate weather effects was issued for some areas of Najran, including Taal city and Badr al-Janoub, from 10am to 6pm, and from 1pm to 11pm for Badr al-Janoub, Khubna, Habash and Najran cities.
Dust and strong winds are expected in these areas, with visibility expected to drop to 3 to 5 kilometers.
NCM advised residents and drivers in the affected areas to use caution, especially on highways and roads, due to variable visibility and strong winds.
