RIYADH — The National Meteorological Center on Wednesday issued a red alert for several areas across the kingdom as dense fog reduced visibility to less than a kilometer, posing serious danger to motorists and commuters.
In the Eastern Province, a red warning for dense fog has been issued for Al Jubail, Al Khobar, Dammam, Al Qatif and Ras Tanura.
The fog was expected to develop at 11pm on Tuesday and last until midday on Wednesday.
Fog is expected to begin in Al Aded at 1am on Wednesday and last until 11am the same day.
The alert level for some parts of Eastern Province was later lowered to yellow warning, indicating light to moderate rain.
Rain is expected in Hafr Al Batin from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
A severe fog warning has also been issued for the Makkah region, particularly in Taif, with conditions expected from 11pm on Tuesday until 10am on Wednesday.
The warning was later upgraded to an orange warning, which indicates unstable weather, including moderate to heavy rain, strong winds, and the possibility of hail and flash flooding.
Areas expected to be affected from 1pm to 8pm on Wednesday include Al Kamel, Rihat and Madraqa.
Similarly, parts of Riyadh region including As Zurfi, Al Ghat, Al Majmaa and Shakra were expected to receive orange level rain from 9am to 8pm on Wednesday.
In the northern border region, an orange dust storm warning has been issued for the city of Lafja, with heavy dust expected to significantly reduce visibility from 10am to 7pm on Wednesday.
NCM called on residents and travelers to exercise caution, follow safety guidelines and keep up to date with official weather advisories.
