Muscat: Oman Lens has launched a national capacity building program in space technology aimed at developing national expertise in satellite engineering, earth observation and remote sensing, as part of efforts to strengthen Oman’s emerging space sector and support the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
The program is aimed at Oman’s brightest students, academics and engineers and provides advanced practical training across all stages of satellite development. Participants will gain hands-on experience in assembly, development, testing, operation and final deployment, building applied technology skills aligned to international standards.
According to Oman Lens, the initiative focuses on strengthening the nation’s capacity by providing specialized training and qualification opportunities for Omani engineers and technicians. It also aims to establish a sustainable technical knowledge base that will support future space projects and contribute to the long-term growth of the Sultanate’s space industry ecosystem.
The program focuses on international cooperation and aims to expand global partnerships, facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technology, and create high-value collaborations that benefit local executives. At the same time, it supports innovation and directly contributes to achieving the national development priorities outlined in Oman Vision 2040.
This program will be implemented in two phases. The first phase will be conducted in Oman and will involve selected students from educational institutions in the Sultanate and will focus on hands-on training in developing and assembling the satellite’s engineering model. Phase 2 will take place in China, where participants will assemble the final flight model and receive advanced hands-on training in a specialized industrial environment in preparation for launch and operational testing.
Oman Lens said the program is a strategic step towards building sustainable national capacity in space technology, strengthening regional expertise and positioning Oman as an active contributor to regional and international space activities.
