Non-compliant fuel stations behind Riyadh oil spill, Fuel Services Board announced

RIYADH — The Executive Committee of Fuel Service Centers and Stations said an oil spill seen in a widely circulated video in Riyadh originated from a noncompliant fuel station.

In a statement issued on Monday, the commission explained that the video clips circulating on social media showing damage to vehicles were due to a petroleum product spill on the road adjacent to the fuel station, which occurred on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 (Dhu al-Hijjah 16).

According to the commission, the source of the spill was a closed fuel station that did not meet regulatory requirements. The station violated regulations by selling diesel fuel to tanker trucks operating without a Department of Energy permit.

It was also confirmed that civil defense teams responded immediately to the incident, implemented all necessary safety measures, and that no one was injured.

Investigations and legal proceedings are currently underway to hold those responsible accountable and provide compensation to those affected by the incident.

The commission also emphasized the importance of reporting observations or suspicious activity at petrol stations by calling the toll-free number or through the partner service Taqa application.
