Nvidia, Amazon and Microsoft are in talks to invest up to $60 billion in OpenAI, The Information reported on Wednesday.

Existing investor Nvidia, which powers OpenAI’s AI models with chips, is in talks to invest up to $30 billion, The Information reported, citing people familiar with the situation.

Longtime backer Microsoft is in talks to invest less than $10 billion, the report said. He added that a new investor, Amazon, is in talks to invest significantly more than $10 billion, and possibly more than $20 billion.

OpenAI is in the process of receiving term sheets, or investment commitments, from these companies, the report said.

Nvidia, Amazon, Microsoft and OpenAI did not respond to Reuters requests for comment outside of normal business hours.

Reuters could not immediately confirm this report.

Amazon’s investment could depend on separate negotiations, including a possible expansion of OpenAI’s cloud server rental agreement with Amazon and a commercial agreement for OpenAI to sell its products to Amazon, such as ChatGPT subscriptions for enterprises, The Information said.

This follows reports earlier this week that SoftBank Group was in talks to invest up to an additional $30 billion in OpenAI.
