The Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Thursday stressed the centrality of the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem to the Islamic world and condemned recent illegal Israeli actions in the West Bank.
The OIC Secretary-General held an extraordinary meeting in Jeddah to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian territories.
The closing statement emphasized “the need for Israel to implement a comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and adhere to the implementation of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan.”
The report called for the second phase of the plan to ensure the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, facilitate the return of displaced persons to their homes, and for “the Palestinian state, with Arab, Islamic and international support, to assume full responsibility and commit to the full and normal opening of all borders with the enclave.”
It called on President Trump to “fulfill his commitments to Arab and Muslim countries to halt Israeli settlement activity, annexation of the occupied West Bank, and forced displacement.”
The statement expressed “absolute rejection and strong condemnation of recent hostile decisions and measures taken by the unlawful Israeli occupation authorities, including the publication of unlawful decisions by the so-called Israeli ‘cabinet’ aimed at imposing the reality of colonial settlements on the occupied Palestinian territories, especially on the West Bank, including Jerusalem.”
The government deemed these decisions invalid, rejected any form of annexation, and warned that “this dangerous escalation is another blatant attack on the historical and legal rights of the Palestinian people and a serious violation of the United Nations Charter, principles of international law, and relevant United Nations resolutions.”
The report called on the international community, particularly the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council, to accept responsibility, including rejecting and condemning Israel’s illegal acts and decisions, and confronting them by forcing Israel to cease all illegal measures that are void and have no legal effect under international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
The statement called on the international community to “take all deterrent and punitive measures and apply pressure to confront Israel’s occupation and its colonial practices, which violate the rules of international law and destabilize the foundations of the law-based international order.”
They must do so by all means possible, “in particular by severing all ties with Israel, including diplomatic, economic, trade, cultural, and parliamentary ties that perpetuate the occupation and its colonial system.”
It called for “using international relations to impose economic and political sanctions to end the occupation.”
